Inclusive Education Community Outreach

The Hub’s Community Outreach Team works to overcome the numerous barriers that prevent children with disability (CwD) gaining access to school. Our “Pop-up classrooms’  delivered in health centres, nurseries and schools, serve as a gateway to getting CwDs, who are often hidden away in homes, into mainstream  schooling.

Once enrolled in a school, the team continues to provide regular inclusive education training for the entire teaching staff, in addition to supporting the teachers of individual CwDs; to ensure these children participate in meaningful learning activities.  The Team can help assess children with SEN in schools and support teachers to create meaningful and attainable Individual Learning Plans. They will advocate for a child to be provided with assistive devices and mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walking and standing frames, so they can access the classroom environment, or for dispensations for exams.

The community outreach team also offers a series of 2-day Disability Awareness workshops, which serve to widen understanding within a greater number of schools and amongst community leaders.
